Winter sports seasons kick off this week
After a couple weeks of rest, area high school students will be back at it again this week as competition kicks off for winter activities.
Three of the four Stillwater high schools will begin basketball season at the end of this week.
The Absarokee Huskies will head to the Sheridan Tournament this Saturday, where both the boys and girls will face the Harrison Wildcats. The boys’ team will play at 2:30 p.m., and the girls’ game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Columbus will open the season against Class A Laurel at home on Friday night. The girls will play first, beginning around 6 p.m., with the boys beginning around 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Cougars will travel to Big Timber to take on the Sweet Grass Herders. The girls will play at 4 p.m., and the boys will start at 5:30 p.m.
The Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades will begin the season with an away conference game against Fromberg. The girls are set to start at 3:30 p.m., with the boys following at 5 p.m.
Park City’s basketball season does not start for another week, opening Dec. 8 and Dec. 9 at a tournament in Red Lodge.
The Columbus-Absarokee Couguskies will also launch their season this weekend. Wrestlers will compete at the Cascade Invite on Friday and Saturday.
SPEECH AND DRAMA
Columbus’ speech, drama, and debate team will be in action this weekend for its second meet. The team will head to Belfry on Saturday morning to compete against area schools.
