Ava Taber poses with Columbus Police Department Animal Control Officer Christine Deacon after donating a box of goodies to the Columbus animal shelter.

Tiny girl, huge heart

Ava Taber is a 4-year-old who lives near Reed Point. She likes to play games, draw pictures, and is a very active little girl.
This preschooler also has a huge heart.
Following the loss of the family’s dog, Duke, Ava wanted to do something special to remember her friend.
She decided that the best thing to do was donate to the local animal shelter to brighten the lives of other animals.
So she, with some help from grandma Linda Kane, of Columbus, created a box to donate. The box contained toys, dog food, and treats. Project Hope contributed some towels and washcloths to the efforts.
The finishing touch was two pictures – the first, a photo of Duke, and the second, one of Ava’s drawings of herself with Duke.
Last week, Kane and Ava donated the box to Columbus Animal Control Officer Christine Deacon.
This box will be the first of many, as Kane says the family hopes to turn Ava’s great idea into a yearly tradition.
