Absarokee sophomore Mallorey Sheppard goes up for the block against Branstetter

Stillwater volleyball teams meet at Huntley

Two Class C volleyball teams from the Stillwater competed against Class B teams at the Huntley Project Coaches Classic in Worden on Sept. 17.
Both the Absarokee Huskies and the Park City Panthers went 1-3-1, while the Columbus Cougars went 0-5, including a loss to Absarokee.
“Our tournament in Huntley was similar to our first one in Broadview, in the sense that we had to make some last minute player-position adjustments,” Absarokee head coach Tonya Steffenson said. “Rebecka Lester did a great job making the transition from outside hitter to setter, which isn’t an easy thing to do.”
The Panthers beat the Huskies in two sets during Silver Bracket play. The first set was close, 25-22, while the second was not, 25-7.
“As far as our playing goes, there was no middle ground,” Steffenson said. “We either looked amazing or we looked horrible.”
Columbus head coach Becky Kurtz expressed disappointment in the Cougars’ performance.
“It was a rough weekend,” Kurtz said. “We didn’t play up to our potential and let mental mistakes take us out of the game.”
Park City head coach Karlee Popp said she appreciated the work of sophomore Megan Flemmer, who came up to replace senior setter-hitter Breanna Anderson, who may be out for a few weeks.
“Megan’s pretty short, about five feet, but she got a kill,” Popp said.
The Huntley Project Red Devils defeated the Red Lodge Rams in the championship match, 25-18, 25-14.
