Renegades falls to Huskies in nail-biter

The Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades rallied in the final two sets in Absarokee on Oct. 6 but failed to overcome the Huskies, losing 25-9, 25-22, 25-22.
Junior Destiny Ayers had 14 kills and five digs for the Renegades. Sophomore Mercedes Hoff had five of the team’s five aces, and freshman Carlee Blodgett had two blocks and five digs.
“The Renegades struggled against Absarokee, but we’re looking forward to a re-match on Oct. 21 in Reed Point,” RPR head coach Teresa Bare said.
For the Huskies, sophomore Mallorey Sheppard had six of the Huskies’ 17 kills and five of the team’s nine blocks in the win. Junior Emma LaMoure had five of the Huskies’ 11 aces and seven digs.
“The girls played all three sets with enthusiasm and heart,” Absarokee head coach Tonya Steffenson said. “The entire bench was able to get some playing time, and they did a really nice job when they were in.”
RPR is now 3-6 in conference and 5-8 overall. Next up for the Renegades are a game in Pryor against the Plenty Coups Warriors on Thursday, Oct. 13 and a game in Park City against the 9-2 Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Thursday, Oct. 21, home game in Reed Point against Absarokee will be a “Pack The Place In Pink” event to raise awareness for breast cancer. Spectators and players are encouraged to wear something pink that night.
