Park City Panthers continue to dominate on the hardwood

GIRLS
The Park City Lady Panthers were hungry last weekend and proved it with two big conference wins.
The first game was against the Bridger Scouts and despite not having all the team’s starters, ended with a resounding 70-43 win.
Four players posted double-figures and the Panthers out-rebounded the Scouts.
“We out-rebounded the scouts 34 combined offense and defense to 15. We are really tracking the rebounds this year so that we rebound all the time and it becomes a really good habit,” said Coach Jason Federico.
Senior Morgan Scott is back on the court and came off the bench to play very well, scoring 10 points.
Sophomoreehya Ray led in stats with 18 points followed by junior Hailee Gregerson with 12. Sophomore MacKinzie Verke added 10.
Saturday’s game against Broadview-Lavina was much closer with the Panthers picking up win No. 2 with a score of 39-40.
The Panthers held Broadview-Lavina to single-digit scoring in three quarters by playing its no-press and “new and improved” 2-3 zone, said Coach Federico. From the line, the Panthers were just four of 15, but were four of eight with 3s, including one by Verke in the fourth quarter.
Verke and junior Cara Grewell each had 10 points, Gregerson added seven and Popp had six.
It put the Panther’s record at 5-1.

BOYS
The Park City boys returned from the holiday break ready to play, winning both conference weekend games.
The first came on the road against the Bridger Scouts in what Panther Coach Matt Nuemann called a “huge win” at 53-46.
“We played excellent as a team on the defensive side of the ball and had some guys step up to handle pressure on offense,” said Neumann. “We hit some big, timely 3’s in the fourth and that led to the victory.”
Three Panthers hit double numbers with senior Dakota Westmore leading with 16 points. Senior Ty Robbie added 11 while freshman Jaren McNeil had 11.
Saturday night’s home game against Broadview-Lavina brought a second Panther win at 47-50. Neumann credited his team’s “amazing focus and a huge will to win” along with the strong leadership of seniors Robbie, Westman, Mason Moe and Grant McNeil. Leading in stats were Moe with 12, and McNeil and Westman with 11 points each.
“Our defense was stellar and we found a way to get great shots,” said Neumann.
Neumann called the weekend “unbelievable” and the product of hard work.
“Our kids worked their butts off and it carried over to the games as we played our best two of the season to date,” he said.
