Lady Panthers enter post-season as top seed
Two wins last weekend for the Park City Lady Panthers gave the team its first 6C conference title in more than a decade with a 14-1 record.
Friday night saw three Lady Panthers hit double-digit numbers in a dominating 68-32 win against in-county rival Reed Point-Rapelje. Leading the way was senior Morgan Popp who led all scorers with 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Junior Hailee Gregerson totaled 11 points and six rebounds and junior Cara Grewall had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Senior Mariah Ray was 5 for 7 from the free-throw line.
The Panthers also caused 21 turnovers. The result was a welcome relief to Coach Jason Federico.
“We had a rough last weekend, so good teams regroup and take it out on the follow week.s opponent,” said Federico.
He also noted it was a special night with seniors and team captains Popp and Ray being honored for senior night.
Saturday’s game against the Fromberg Falcons was more of the same, ending in a 73-38 Panther win.
Four Panther players reached double figures, starting with Popp who had 24 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Gregerson had 16 points, three rebounds and three steals, sophomore MacKinzie Verke had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals while Grewell totaled 12 points and nine rebounds.
“We knew that a win tonight would give us our first conference title in over 10 years...very proud of the Lady Panthers,” said Federico.
