House takes 7th at state golf tournament

The Cougar golf season ended Wednesday, May 13, at the State B Golf Tournament.
Our season is best described as a rebuilding year. Following the 2014 season where the boys team won the state championship and the graduation of state medalist Philip Holten and third place finisher Jackson Klee, only two state qualifiers remained.
Ryland Stampfel and Chaz Krone led the boys throughout the 2015 season and their experience and work ethic produced another state qualifying team.
Stampfel finished in a tie for 15th place following a closing round of 78 at Eagle Rock. Chaz Krone finished with an 83 for his final round of the season. Erik Howell had his two best 18-hole rounds of the year at the state meet with a 91 and 97. Shayne Stadel and Braden Marjerison also were part of this years’ state qualifying team. Marjerison is the only Senior on the squad so the 2016 year will return four players with state tourney experience.
The girls’ team was led by our only returning player, Tana House. Incoming Freshmen Bailey Johannes and Olivia Hess and newcomer Junior Dani Hoover gave us a four person girls’ team.
House was a great leader and had an outstanding season. Tana’s desire and encouragement to have a girls’ team at the state meet resulted in our girls also qualifying and experiencing the excitement of the competition at the sate level.
She finished in seventh place individually and led the girls to a seventh overall finish.
Bailey Johannes’ 106 and Olivia Hess’s 108 on the final day were both personal bests for the season. Dani Hoover also had a good meet a final day score of 119.
Although this season is finished, the experience these players have gained will prepare them for an exciting 2016 season.
