Cougars take down Roundup

Columbus notches second conference win on the road against Roundup

The Cougars came home from Roundup on Oct. 14 with a hard-fought conference win over the Panthers in four sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16.
“The girls stepped on the floor and played as a team,” Columbus head coach Jill Lowell said. “Everyone contributed to get the win. We are definitely becoming a more confident team and are continually growing.”
Columbus lost the second set, which went to extra points, but overwhelmed Roundup in kills by 45-27 and in aces by 19-5.
On offense for the Cougars, senior Tyona Robbins had nine kills, senior Mykaila Berry had six aces, and freshman Morgan Kirch had half the team’s 36 assists.
The young Roundup team did much better on defense, with eight blocks to Columbus’ three and 44 digs to the Cougars’ 49. For Columbus, Robbins had one block, and senior Kylee Gullings had 11 digs.
Panther junior Jade Fortner posted seven kills, sophomore Mckenna Seeley had two aces, junior Sydney Ault had 3 ½ blocks, sophomore Sam Benenberger had 16 assists, and junior Cislee Barth had 12 digs.
The Cougars are now 2-7 in conference and 5-10 overall. Next up, they travel to Red Lodge for a conference match against the Rams on Thursday, Oct. 22, followed by a home match against the non-conference Colstrip Fillies on Saturday, Oct. 24.
