Cougar golf kicks off 2015 season

The Columbus Cougar golf teams have begun their season with a trio of varsity meets.
On March 27 a full boys’ team and a lone Cougar girl visited Colstrip’s course. Tana House placed second on the girl’s side with a round of 93. Ryland Stampfel led the boy’s team to a second place team finish with an individual score of 81, good for third place. Chaz Krone 94, Braden Marjerison 102, Erik Howell 106, and Colton Wells 109, contributed to the second place finish.
On Saturday only two boys made the trip to Big Timber due to conflicts with prom and State FFA. Chaz Krone carded a 96 and Erik Howell a 112 in very windy conditions.
Tuesday we traveled to Forsyth with a full boy’s team and a four-player girl’s team. Both teams placed fourth in the meet. Tana House again finished in second place overall with an 83. Olivia Hess 115, Bailey Johannes 118, and Dani Hoover 132, played in their first varsity meet. On the boy’s side Ryland Stampfel and Chaz Krone tied for fifth with scores of 82. Krone won the chip-off taking fifth and Stampfel ended in sixth. Shayne Stadel ended with a 102, followed by Braden Marjerison 111, and Erik Howell 113.
March 30 was the first JV meet of the year held at Eagle Rock Golf Course. Ben Plymale, Jacob Wells, Bailey Johannes, Olivia Hess, and Dani Hoover all played in their first matches for the Cougars.
This week’s calendar is hectic for our teams. On Tuesday we travel to Bozeman for the Manhattan Varsity meet at Bridger Creek. Wednesday Columbus hosts our JV meet at Stillwater Golf. Thursday the varsity travels to Pryor Creek for Huntley’s yearly meet and Saturday we to go Harlowton for another varsity meet.
