Columbus/Absarokee “Couguskies” wrestlers second at Whitehall Duals

The Columbus/Absarokee Wrestling team went 6-2 in dual action over the weekend.
The team started with a split of Southern B foes on Thursday night in Whitehall. The Couguskies trounced Whitehall 60-12 and lost by criteria (most first takedowns) in a 36-36 tie with Townsend.
The Whitehall Dual Tournament was Friday and Saturday. In preliminary pool competition (Friday), the team defeated Shelby (52-12), Helena High JV (42-30), and Boulder (62-6), to secure a spot in Saturday’s championship bracket.
The top two teams in each pool advance to the championship bracket. Saturday, the wrestlers walloped Helena High JV (57-18) to advance to the semifinal where they defeated Shepherd 36-30.
The championship was a rematch of Thursday night with Townsend. The Couguskies feel short (27-39) in the championship dual. This marks the third consecutive year the Columbus/Absarokee squad has advanced into the championship of the Whitehall Duals.
Top performance over the weekend came from seniors Eli Walston (7-0) and Will Griffel (5-2), junior Karl Berg (5-2), sophomore Robbie Coleman (4-3) and freshmen Nate Goddard (6-2) and Ben Plymale (4-2). Recording multiple wins were Isaiah Littlelight, Michael Sherwood, Josh Bowman, Kevin Finley and Dustin Stepper
The team returned home Tuesday against Huntley Project and Park High in Absarokee. They finish of the 2014 portion of the schedule with duals in Shepherd (Friday) and Huntley (Saturday).
They bring in the New Year by hosting the Columbus/Absarokee Invitational on Jan. 3 in Columbus.
