AHS begins with a win
The Absarokee Huskies gave fans something to cheer about this past weekend at the Reed Point/Rapelje Tip Off Tournament.
The Huskies lost a thriller to the Yellowstone County Christian Home School Knights by just three points when Absarokee senior Trevor Smith got off a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded that just missed. The Knights won the game by a final score of 42-39.
Both teams came out with great energy and effort. The Knights took to the early advantage at the end of the first quarter by a score of 10-7, but Absarokee was undeterred. The Huskies battled back and was able to tie the game at 19 with under a minute to go. As the clock ran out Absarokee forced the Knights into a tough long shot but an offensive rebound and put back by Knight senior Naaman Lund gave YCCHS the lead 21 -19 at the break.
The Huskies had a great rebounding effort in the first half led by senior Trevor Smith, juniors Bryce Oderman, Calvin Hanson, and Isaiah Mondragon, as well as Sophomore Rily Livingston.
The second half saw more of the same back and forth. In the fourth quarter YCCHS was able to stretch the lead to 10 points with four minutes to go. The Huskies would not go down quietly.
Due to foul trouble, freshmen Roman Zugaza and Adrian Tellez were called upon and responded very well. The Huskies battled back and set the score at 39-42 with three seconds to go. With the help of his teammates, senior Trevor Smith let a 3 fly at the buzzer that unfortunately fell short.
On Saturday the Huskies had a strong showing against a very young but very talented Reed Point-Rapelje Renegade team. This game will count in the conference standings and the Huskies were able to get the victory by a final score of 55-38.
The game began slowly and deliberately with each team scoring on its first possession and each team making a 3-pointer. The Huskies took control pushing the lead to 9-3 before RPR came charging back to get the score to 11-9 at the quarter break. Absarokee would not relinquish the lead however and was able to earn its first conference victory of the season by a final score of 55-38. Absarokee fans saw seven different Huskies score including, Isaiah Mondragon, Trevor Smith, Bryce Oderman, Calvin Hanson, Cooper Crabtree, Rily Livingston and Roman Zugaza. The Huskies also got quality play in the second half from Freshman Cole Brown.
The Huskies play Bridger at home this Friday night, which is also Secret Santa night. If you are coming to the game and are able please bring a gift for the kids that attend the game. On Saturday the Huskies travel to Park City to take on the Panthers. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m.
