CHS Speech & Drama takes sweepstakes at Hardin

The Columbus High Speech and Drama teams continued their winning ways with a Class B sweepstakes win in drama at the Hardin Invitational on Nov. 19.
Competing against 26 schools, the CHS speech team earned second place hardware.
The Columbus drama team was traveling without a few key members, but they still prevailed. Rookies Akira Castanon and Shannon Reece added team points with an 8th place finish in Dramatic Duo in their competition debut.
Strong finishes from veterans Devin Livergood and Dalton Marjerison, second in Humorous Duo, Sarah Carrel, third in Humorous Solo, Kaleigh and Morgan Baker, third in Dramatic Duo, and Kevin Fox and Kolton Gladney, sixth in Classical Duo rounded out the team's score.
This week the Speech team added the strength of the Policy Debate Duo of veteran Alli Onoszko newly paired with younger sister Riley. With two wins and a loss, the pair finished fourth. As in Belfry, the Columbus Dramatic Oral Interpretation entry of Josh Bowman and Rourke Hanson was very strong. Bowman again earned medalist honors, with Hanson just two points behind in third.
The teams travel next to Belgrade on Dec. 3. Volunteers for the Columbus Invitational are still needed. Please call or text Coach Kern at 861-8069 if you can help.
