Sariin

Nov. 28, 1943 — Dec. 29, 2017

Carl “Cully” Sariin, 74, left this world to go tinker in heaven on Dec. 29, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Mangan); daughters Melissa LaFave (Daimen) of Mahtowa, Minn., and Bobbi Schatz (Kevin) Columbus, Mont.; grandchildren Travis and Jessi Ennen, Jonah and Bella LaFave and Wade, Garret, Alexis, Wyatt Schatz; sisters Carol Gohl (Vernon), Carla Egerman (Kevin), Linda Sariin and brother Bill Sariin (Lori)
Carl was born in Orem, Utah, to Carl W. Sariin and Anna (Swanson) Nov. 28, 1943. He grew up in Cloquet Minn., where he worked for Potlatch for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy during the Vietnam War. He was active in Scouting as an Explorer and obtained his Eagle Rank in 1962. Carl continued his Scouting path as his grandchildren became active and they moved to Montana. Carl was always there to lend a hand to any project presented to him.
Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good cigar, playing guitar —which by the way, he started learning at the young age of 71 — but most of all he loved tinkering out in his shop. Stopping by was always a treat to see what he was building or creating that day. He was a talented woodworker, metal worker, welder and blacksmith. The hundreds of items that were created in Carl’s shop were a testament to his passion to make things better and brighter.
A celebration of his life will be held Jan. 6, 2018, at St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus, Mont., at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Columbus Senior Center.
