Peterson

Pastor Lonnie L. Peterson, 83, lost his battle with multiple myeloma and joined his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2017.
Lonnie was born to the late Carroll and Arline Peterson in Watertown, S.D., on Sept. 16, 1933. He was born into a dedicated Christian family centered around Christ and the Church.
The family moved to Billings in 1939 to be with family. He felt his call to the ministry came at Youth camp at Nyheart, Mont., and he set his course to the ministry and full-time service to Christ.
He graduated from Lakewood Park Bible School (Devils Lake, N.D.) in 1955. While attending, he ministered in Molt, Mont., one summer and another he entered into evangelistic ministry holding meetings in Red Lodge, Roundup, Fairfield, Browning and then in North Dakota speaking for an Indian Youth camp.
While at Bible School ,he began a courtship with Helen Larson from Columbus, Mont., and they married June 24, 1954. Together they pastored Assembly of God Churches in Forman, N.D. (1955-1956), twice in Columbus, Mont., (1957-1963 and 2008-2014) and 35 years in Laurel, Mont., (1963-1998).
Lonnie and Helen were blessed with three children. One of his most special times in ministry was when all three were serving and ministering with him in the Laurel church.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Helen; his children Contrella, Timothy (Sybil) and Paul (Sherry); his grandchildren Andrew (Amy), Nicholas, Sheree Daniel (Shawn), Tyler (Becca), Alisha Whitis (Richie), Travis, Sean (Amanda), and Stefanie; 13 great-grandchildren and his siblings Ken Peterson, James Peterson (Arlene), and Verla Jones (Wayne). He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Adams and brother Leslie Peterson.
Lonnie enjoyed extended family reunions, music (playing his guitar, trumpet and harmonica), his horses, camping, hunting and fishing, gardening, cutting wood, Glacier Bible Camp, Zion Tape Ministries, and many friends.
Visitation took place at the Remington Letcher Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 7.
The Celebration of Life will be at Family Church in Laurel on Thursday, June 8, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Columbus cemetery.
