Pollington

Retired mathematics teacher, Barry D. Pollington (68), died of natural causes at his home in Billings, on Friday, Dec. 30. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at Faith Chapel, 517 S. Shiloh Road., Billings, Mont.
Barry was always an accomplished student. So much so that in his senior high school year, he was nominated for an appointment to West Point by then Sen. Mike Mansfield. Although greatly honored by the nomination, he declined it to pursue his dream of becoming a high school teacher. He attended Montana State University in Bozeman where earned concurrent teaching bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Biological Sciences and subsequently a master’s degree in mathematics.
Barry’s teaching career would ultimately lead him to CM Russell High School in Great Falls. Barry was both loved and respected at CMR. Former students have frequently made comments like, “Without Mr. Pollington, I never would have made it through math” and “I never would have gone on to college had it not been for the support and encouragement I got from Mr. Pollington.” In addition to classroom instruction, Barry was always involved in other aspects of student life, especially sports. He coached girl’s basketball and was the ever-present score and time keeper at CMR games.
Barry was preceded in death by both parents, by his younger brother Boyd (Butch) and by his first wife Bonnie. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his sons Benjamin Pollington (Sharnell and grandson Braxtyn) in Bozeman and Jason Pollington in Havre, his step-daughter Krista Johnson (Steven and daughters Emma and Grace) in Parker, Colo.; his brothers Bruce Pollington (Roxanne) in Great Falls, Robert (Bob) Hart in Lovell, Wyo. and William Hart (Betty) in Absarokee. The family requests that memorials be made to the Montana Rescue Mission.
