Ewan

April 16, 1918 – Nov. 2, 2016

Columbus – Ruth Ewan was born April 16, 1918, on the family farm on Upper Flaherty Flat to Paul E. Anderson and Emma Stoltenberg Anderson.
She grew up on the Flat and lived at home until her marriage to Lewis E. Ewan. They were married at the Lutheran Parsonage in Livingston on Feb. 29, 1944. They lived in Bozeman until November 1945, while Lewis worked at the Montana State College and the Bozeman Tunnel.
They returned to Columbus where Lewis worked for Davey Motor Company, before moving to her family’s farm. In the early 60’s Ruth went to work at AG Market on Main Street for Chuck Davis. In the late 60s she sharpened her office skills and went to work for Stillwater County in the Treasurer’s Office. She gave them 22 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1988.
She loved working in her flower beds and garden and taking long walks with Lewis and the dog. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, spending many hours helping care for her three local grandchildren. She joined both the Columbus and Rapelje Red Hat. She thoroughly enjoyed those adventures, her last one being about six weeks before she passed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, baby daughter Alice June, daughter Carol, great grandson Calvin, brother Enos Anderson; sisters Velma Christensen, June Ruff and Pauline Michael.
She is survived by son Larry (Agnes) and daughters Susan (Bill) and Mary (Ken). She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Interment at will be at 9 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Columbus followed by services at St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. James Lutheran Church, Special K Ranch or the MS Society.
