A stolen truck and a multi-county chase

What started as a routine traffic stop in Park City last Saturday ended in a three-county pursuit involving a stolen truck, five law enforcement agencies, a crash and two people in jail.
On May 21 at 11:15 p.m., Stillwater County Reserve Deputy Jared Delaney attempted to stop two occupants in what turned out to be a stolen silver pickup truck from Sweet Grass County. The vehicle headed east on I-90 into Laurel. The truck then changed directions and headed west on I-90.
A semi attempted unsuccessfully to block traffic at some point and traffic was cleared from the road due to the truck “driving all over,” according to dispatch records. At one point metal debris was thrown out of the truck and the driver managed to miss a spike strip set up by Columbus police. The truck hit the median near the Springtime exit and began traveling west in the eastbound lane, passing multiple vehicles and nearly hitting a vehicle at mile marker 392, according to dispatch records.
Near the Greycliff exit the truck slowed down and left the road to avoid a second set of spike strips. The truck crashed at mile marker 384 and two men were taken into custody. They were transported to a hospital by Sweet Grass authorities. Joseph Alan Nyhart of Bozeman and Austin Gottfried Schwarz of Livingston were both arrested for felony and as of Wednesday were being held on $10,000 bond in the Park County Detention Facility.
In addition to deputies, Columbus police and MHP, Yellowstone County deputies took part in the pursuit. Sweet Grass County deputies made the arrest.
