Man fled scene after running over victim

The Park City man accused of causing life threatening injuries to a friend when he backed a pickup truck over him outside a bar told at least two people he had “(expletive) up,” according to court documents filed earlier this week in district court.
When questioned at the scene by investigators, Charles Dean Madsen alleged admitted to drinking whiskey, taking a friend’s truck to buy cigarettes, “backing up over what felt like a speed bump,” seeing Zackery Snow on the ground and fleeing the scene, according to court documents.
The incident occurred on April 3 outside Pop’s Bar in Park City and was reported via 911 at 10:59 p.m., according to Stillwater County Sheriff’s dispatch records. MHP, deputies and Columbus police all responded to the scene.
Madsen, 22, was arrested early the next morning on felony charges of criminal endangerment and failure to remain at the scene. As of Wednesday he remained in the Yellowstone County Detention Facility with bail set at $25,000. Snow, 21, was taken to a Billings hospital with life threatening injuries. His condition was unknown as of press time.
Witness told investigators that Madsen had come into the bar and said there was a problem, according to court documents. Outside they found “a body was lying in a mud puddle and bleeding from the head” having been run over by Madsen, according to court documents.
One witness also said that Madsen made the statement “I (expletive) up.”
All the parties involved were friends who had played paintball together earlier in the day. When one of them called 911, Madsen allegedly “freaked out,” moved the truck behind the bar and fled the scene on foot.
During the time he was gone from the scene, Madsen allegedly called his girlfriend and said he had “(expletive) up,” according to court documents.
Madsen eventually returned to the scene and admitted to drinking whiskey, taking a friend’s truck to buy cigarettes and backing up over what “felt like a speed bump” and then fleeing the scene after seeing Snow on the ground, according to court documents.
He was scheduled to appear in district court on Thursday.
