2 men deny aggravated assault charge for alleged stomping attack

Two men have denied stomping on two other men outside an Absarokee bar, knocking one unconscious and breaking the other’s leg.
Matthew Kitchens, 24, pleaded not guilty last Friday to one felony charge of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor charge of assault.
Tyler Nelson, 34, also appeared last Friday and pleaded not guilty to one felony count of aggravated assault by accountability and one misdemeanor count of assault.
Both were arrested on warrants on Feb. 2 and released that same night after posting a $25,000 bond. They both must comply with several court-ordered conditions while the case is pending, including a 10 p.m. curfew, no alcohol, bars or casinos and keeping or finding a job.
Nelson is currently on probation out of Carbon County for burglary and theft, according to the Montana Department of Corrections Correctional Offender Network.
According to court documents, Michael Salt and Cody Figart were attacked by Kitchens and Nelson outside the Chrome Bar on Sept. 13, 2015. Figart reportedly confronted Kitchen and Nelson about pushing down a girl and the pair turned on him, hitting and kicking him.
Salt tried to break up the fight, but was also assaulted by the pair. Specifically, Kitchens is accused of knocking Salt to the ground and stomping on his leg until it broke, according to court documents. He was taken to the Stillwater Billings Clinic then taken by ambulance to a Billings hospital.
Figart told investigators that Kitchens and Nelson hit him at the same time which knocked him unconscious, then stomped on him, according to court documents.
