Some I-90 drivers pushing new 80 mph speed

You can drive a little faster on most interstates in Montana as of Oct. 1, but sneaking over the new 80 mph speed limit is also going to cost you a little more.
More than three dozen motorists have found that out the hard way with at least 37 tickets being written to drivers on the stretch of I-90 that runs through Stillwater County.
The law went into effect on Oct. 1 and speeds have ranged from 84 mph to 100 mph, according to justice court records.
Approximately 21 of those citations were written to Montana drivers with the speed ranging from 87 to 100 mph. All but five involved speeds of 90 mph or higher.
The speed limit remains the same for semi trucks.
Signed into law by Gov. Steve Bullock in May 2015, the speed limit was bumped up to 80 mph on federal-aid interstate highways outside of urban areas with a population of 50,000 or more. The fines were also bumped up slightly, as Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Barb Armstrong explained:
•Up to 90 mph is a $40 fine
•90 to 100 mph is a $70 fine
•101 to 110 mph is a $120 fine
•111 mph or higher is a $200 along with a mandatory court appearance
The revenue from increased fines is expected to bring in $95,000 a year, according to the Insurance Journal.
Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota also have 80 mph zones, according to information from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Armstrong offers the following advice.
“The speed limit is 80 mph on the interstate, which is more than fast enough to get from point A to point B,” said Armstrong. “As always drive for the weather conditions, road conditions and traffic conditions.”
