Park City bicyclist killed on Highway 10 identified
A bicyclist was killed and a child injured when they were hit by a car on Highway 10 just outside of Park City early Wednesday morning, July 6.
Gary Lowman, 58, was identified as the deceased victim Wednesday afternoon, according to Stillwater County Sheriff Cliff Brophy.
Lowman was riding a bicycle east towards Park City when he was hit by a Chevrolet Lumina. Riding along side Lowman was his 6-year-old grandson, who suffered some “incapacitating injuries” and was taken by ambulance to a Billings hospital, said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Bill Bullock. The child was wearing a helmet.
The accident took place at mile marker 16.1, between Columbus and Park City.
According to Stillwater County Office dispatch records, a 911 call was made at 7:57 a.m. regarding a bicyclist who had been hit by a vehicle and was not breathing. The highway was shut down at 8:42 a.m. and reopened shortly before noon.
Bullock said speed was not a factor but sun glare might have been. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala who hit the bicyclists remained on scene and is cooperating with law enforcement, said Bullock. The investigation is ongoing.
Deputies, the Park City ambulance and Columbus Fire Rescue and the Montana Department of Transportation also responded.
