Mother denies felony DUI charge with child in car

A woman facing two felony offenses for allegedly driving drunk with her 8-year-old child in the vehicle earlier this month has denied all charges.
Kaylee Gunderson, 30, appeared in 22nd Judicial District Court last Thursday and pleaded not guilty to felony counts of a fourth or subsequent DUI and criminal endangerment, as well as misdemeanor charges of driving with a revoked license, failure to carry insurance and speeding.
Gunderson had already posted $25,000 and was ordered to abide by court-imposed conditions including a 10 p.m. curfew and the use of a SCRAM unit, which monitors alcohol through the skin.
According to court documents, Gunderson was stopped for speeding 59 mph in a 35 mph zone on Pike Avenue in Columbus on March 7. Earlier in the night, there had been two 911 calls made about a possible drunk driving in the same vehicle.
Columbus Police Officer Gary Timm noted that Gunderson’s eyes were glassy and dilated and that there was a “very strong odor” of alcohol being emitted from Gunderson, according to court documents. Her BAC allegedly measured .189 on a portable Breathalyzer and a blood draw was later conducted at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility. Her child was released to her boyfriend.
Police determined Gunderson had a Colorado driver’s license that had been suspended due to an “insurance termination” and Gunderson was unable to provide proof of insurance, according to court documents.
