Man denies 11th offense DUI
A man charged with an 11th offense DUI has been jailed on $25,000.
Thomas Stanley Stryjewski, 62, appeared in 22nd Judicial District Court in Columbus on Thursday, Aug. 20, and pleaded not guilty to one felony count of DUI.
Deputy Stillwater County Attorney Ryan Addis said it is Stryjewski's 11th offense.
"Eleventh?" asked District Judge Blair Jones.
Jones immediately denied a defense request for a low bail and granted the prosecutor's request for a $25,000 bond, which had been set when Stryjewski was arrested on Aug. 6.
There was confusion regarding where Stryjewski lives, with defense attorney Greg Paskell initally saying when his client wasn't at a Veteran's Affairs facility, he lives at a fishing access. Stryjewski later said he lives in Billings.
According to court documents, on Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. deputies and Columbus police were sent to Highway 78 on a report of a possible drunk driver near the Swinging Bridge fishing access. Officers noted he had difficultly walking, was swaying back and forth and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. His eyes were also bloodshot, red and watery. Stryjweski admitted to drinking "a few beers" around noon and said he was on a "significant" amount of medication for various neurological problems, according to court documents. His BAC was measured at .119 on a portable Breathylzer.
Stryjewski was remanded back into custody at the close of the hearing.
