Fundraisers continue for 5-year-old Columbus boy battling leukemia

While 5-year-old Caleb Overhuls battles leukemia at a Denver hospital, Stillwater County is doing what small communities do best -- rally.
As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $9,000 had been raised through GoFundMe in a 20-day period, which is nearly halfway to the $20,000 goal.
Add to that another $1,200 donated by Heather and Devon Pinkal of Beartooth Beanery through last week’s Rally for Caleb event. Of that total, an astounding $827 of that came from tips and donations.
Financial help is needed as Caleb’s parents, Candi and Stacey Overhuls, do not have insurance. Caleb was flown to Denver last month to begin treatment for leukemia. The family will need to stay in Denver for more than a month. The treatment plan is three years and while some of it can be handled in Billings, more trips to Denver will be necessary.
Candi Overhuls said this week the family is grateful for the support of the community.
“We are taking this minute by minute, because even one day at a time is sometimes overwhelming,” said Candi.
The family is facing each obstacle as they come, counting their blessing and note that “our supportive community is one of the biggest blessings we have.”
An account has been established at all First Interstate Bank locations under the name “Caleb Overhuls Leukemia Fund.” Additionally “Coins for Caleb”donation jars have been placed at the The Hair Company, New Atlas Bar, IGA, 307 Grill, Bar & Casino, the Waterhole in Reed Point, Napa Auto Parts, Columbus Town Pump, the Stockman Café in Rapelje, Sports Hut, Wild Card Casino, New Image Salon, Terri Miller’s Office, Emmett Mechanical, Eagle’s Nest, Platinum Pooch, Big Fat Lunchbox, Uncle Sam’s, Juliana’s Jammin’ and Ken’s I-90.
