Columbus Fire Rescue rolls second vehicle in two weeks, no injuries

For the second time in two weeks, Columbus Fire Rescue has rolled a vehicle on the way to an emergency scene.
Last Wednesday, Feb. 3, a Columbus Fire Rescue tender truck rolled on Highway 10 while responding to a structure fire on Noble Lane, just outside of Columbus, according to the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Dispatch records.
The accident occurred at 9:53 p.m. No injuries were reported. Deputies and MHP responded to the scene.
Columbus Fire Chief Rich Cowger said a water tender truck with one occupant became distracted and did not see the fire engine in front of him slowing down, locked up the brakes and swerved to avoid hitting the engine.
Cowger said that caused the water tender truck to go into the barrow ditch and roll. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. No citation was issued.
On the previous Saturday, Jan. 31, a Columbus Fire Rescue utility truck rolled in icy conditions on I-90 on the way to an accident scene. As the truck was traveling uphill, it fishtailed then rolled two or three times. Both firefighters were wearing seatbelts and escaped injury. It was one of at least three roll-over accidents that occurred on I-90 that day.
