Closing out a career

After 17 years at the Fishtail School, teacher Deann Stone-Hammond is retiring.
Last Thursday marked her final day, celebrated with a fishing trip and barbecue at the Fishtail park, where students cooked their own hot dog on the barbecue pit with a stick. Also in attendance were many of the children’s family members and the school board.
Stone-Hammond’s replacement is Krystle Hatton-Glover, who moved to Columbus from Los Angeles, Calif., five years ago, after her husband got a job at the Stillwater Mining Company.
Hatton-Glover and her husband always wanted to move to the country and raise children where they were safe and wouldn’t have to run home from school scared. The couple found that in Columbus.
Hatton-Glover has taught middle school, elementary and preschool before, but never all at once. She is excited about the challenges it will pose but mostly that she will be able to live how she has always imagined life in the country.
