70-year-old man arrested for alleged repeated rape of girl

A former Park City man has been arrested for the alleged repeated rape of a young girl.
Vernon Francis Hawley, 70, was arrested on a warrant Dec. 5 charging him with one count of felony sexual assault without consent. Bond was set at $25,000.

The victim in the case was 8-years-old at the time of the first assault.
According to court documents, the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office in April of 2014 about possible sex crimes that had been committed in both counties, as well as Yellowstone County.
The victim was 8-years-old when the sexual assaults began, and took place in Park City and Billings, according to court documents. The girl told Indian Health Services (IHS) about the sexual abuse 1 1/2 years ago, but did not want that agency to tell anyone. When Stillwater County authorities questioned IHS about this, they confirmed the girl had reported being assaulted and referred her to a counselor.
