Community volunteer work at divisional event appreciated

We live in a caring and generous community! I’ve understood this for a long time, and it was certainly in evidence this last Saturday when 21 high schools with 200 plus students and their coaches travelled to Columbus for a long and arduous day of competition at the Southern Class B/C Divisional Speech and Drama Tournament.
Close to 100 of our county’s finest spent all or part of their day volunteering as citizen judges and support personnel. Teachers and administrators from all three of the Columbus schools offered the use of their buildings and classrooms. Staff from all three schools worked extra hours to make Divisionals a success. Many members of the Columbus Booster Club provided hospitality for coaches, bus drivers, and judges.
Highlights for me were the appreciation expressed by coaches from across the division for the knowledge and caring attitude of our judges, and the many compliments judges shared with me about talent and enthusiasm of the competitors.
My assistant coach, Melissa Ranstrom, and I cannot thank you enough for your support of this fine program that enriches the lives of so many of our children. As we travel with the twelve youth from Columbus who qualified for the State meet in Huntley this Friday, we will keep this great community in our hearts and do our best to represent you proudly.
