Frey

Dec. 31, 1925 — Nov. 26, 2017

Charles F. Frey, 91, of Absarokee, went home early Sunday morning on Nov. 26, 2017.
A son of Herman and Dora (Meyer) Frey he was born Dec. 31, 1925, on the banks of the Yellowstone River at the home of his Great Uncle Jacob and “Mother” Hausserman near Greycliff, Mont. He grew up at the head of Bridger Creek and rode his horse to school at Stockade.
He loved to dance and was a popular partner for schottisches, polkas, two steps and round dances. He belonged to square dance groups, enjoying those old time dances.
Charles was a builder, building the home we all lived in, and doing many other things with wood. He loved to pack into the mountains on a fishing trip. His children have many fond memories of those trips with him.
He is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and in his earlier years he served as a Volunteer Fireman, was a Boy Scout leader enjoying taking his boys on camping trips. He served as a 4-H leader in sheep and helping his children at woodwork. He was a president of the Absarokee Swimming pool and was an active member of the Jaycees until he aged out of that group.
Charles worked for many years at Timberweld Mfg. in Columbus.
He married his wife, Dona, of almost 54 years on Dec. 14, 1963, in Absarokee. They raised four children: Ethel (Ted) Acord, Donald (Keri) Frey, Charlene (Pete) Peterson, and Julie (Ernie) Brimer.
He is also survived by an older sister, Frieda Burrows and younger siblings, Joyce (Ted) Fotland of Deer Creek, and Gene Frey of Billings. Twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a step-mother, Helen Gold of Sheridan, Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Ann Stenberg.
Graveside services were held at The Rosebud Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. Cookies and coffee will be served in the parish hall of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Absarokee following the graveside service. The family is planning a celebration of life for Charles this spring.
