Couguskies finish 4th in division, 11 wrestlers qualify for state
The Columbus-Absarokee-Park City wrestling team was able to qualify 11 wrestlers for the state wrestling tournament this weekend after all competed well at divisionals last weekend.
The Couguskies hosted the 12-team Southern B-C Divisional meet this past weekend. The team ended up 11 points shy of bringing home a trophy.
The team race was led by Jefferson (Boulder) with 231 points, followed by runner-up Whitehall with 189 points.
The Couguskies entered the placing round with a 12-point lead for third place over Broadwater, but in the end were outscored 31-18. Broadwater (Townsend) scored 165 points to finish in third, and the Couguskies earned 154 points, good for fourth place. The fifth place team, Cascade, ended with 71 points.
State qualifiers include divisional champion Dylan Raihl (145 pounds), a junior, and runners-up Connor Goddard (132 pounds) and Nate Goddard (138 pounds), both seniors. Junior Colton Getz (152 pounds) finished in third place and will advance to state.
All of the fourth place finishers will compete in Billings next weekend: freshman Peyton Baumgartner (120 pounds), junior Clay Haverland (126 pounds), senior Eduardo Pantoja (138 pounds), junior Nathan Hollar (152 pounds), junior Nate Palmer (160 pounds), and sophomore Ethan Hood (285 pounds). The final state qualifier was freshman Acel Reynold (103 pounds), who finished sixth.
The State All-Class Tournament will be held in Billings at Metra Park. It begins at 10 a.m. Friday and concludes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
